The two tracks on this 'virtual 45' are both inspired by noise. A Ship in a Bottle was written around the sound of a radar ping. I've always found the sound interesting and evocative it was only a matter of time before it found its way into a song. :)
lyrics
A Ship in a Bottle
The wind let me down
But it lifted me up
The thought I would see you again
I’ve sailed out as far as I’m able this time
And I hope you don’t mind
That I’m seasick and soaking
My heart is chipped up
Like the cups in the cupboard
I’m sunburned and broken
No land to port to aft or to starboard
Anywhere, anytime
I’ll take what I can find
Looking for harbour tonight
The sheets ripped and I tripped
And I lost the radar and stripped out the throttle
The line slipped and we tipped
We’re going nowhere
Like a ship in a bottle
Now the stars I could read if
It weren’t’ for the cloud and the hurricane gale
Not much to do but head to the wind
and cling to the rail
I’m bone cold and shaking
Rattling like all the plates in the pantry
I’m storm chased and aching
The wind it is howling now
Just like a banshee
