I heard that song again I don't remember when but I had that record and I wore it out Somewhere it dissapeared like left socks and younger years like conversation over beer at closing time there is a hole in the world (there is a hole in my world) that thoughts fall through there is a tear in time that takes things too and I knew all the words I know that sounds absurd but I had that record and I loved it all somehow it got lost like first love and left socks somewhere there is a box that overflows there is a hole in my mind (there is a hole in my mind) that things fall through there is a tear in time that takes memories too you know I can't recall the album cover much at all I had it tacked up on my wall for awhile after that it starts to fade like left socks and yesterdays oh yes that was one I played until the needle frayed there is a hole in my world (there is a hole in my world) that thoughts time falls through there is a tear in time and it holds you too I heard that song again I don't remember when but I had that record and I wore it out Copyright D.Dagenais February 1, 2013

Dear Davey Jones Copyright D.Dagenais February 20, 2013 They left Tuesday” she said to fish The Gully where the ocean floor drops off the map It’s been almost a week and all these search teams have begun throwing up their hands But I still have hope So I wrote this note And sealed it up in a blue bottle Dear Davey Jones Let him come home What’s one more or less on the bottom? When the weather turned foul off Sable Isle at first I was sure they‘d be in There were hours then days The authorities say That chances are now very slim But I still have hope So I wrote this note And set it out on the grey waves Dear Davey Jones Let him come home What’s one more or less in your grave? All of the young men with pride in their eyes At least we can say they lived how they died Not knowing fear like young cavaliers But the ocean is nobody’s bride They left Tuesday she said On the deck of Miss Ally Somewhere they dropped off the map It’s been more than a week and the last search team Tells me they’re not coming back But I still have hope So I wrote this note And tied it up in a white string Dear Davey Jones Let him come home To you he means not a damn thing (Bridge) Copyright D.Dagenais February 20, 2013

There was a man who walked across this land a black guitar strapped up on his back he lived among the cockroaches and snakes who said "compromise yourself, that's what it takes" (Chorus) He said "No No No, I'll take my boots out and I'll stomp them No No No, I'll write these songs just cause I want them and when this thing stops beating in my chest I'll have no regrets, no regrets He was every crazy uncle he could be he part of everybody's family he live among the vermin and the rats who said "jump the ship, down south is where it's at." (chorus) A Canadian hero from Moosejaw to Toronto A Canadian hero Yellowknife to Oromocto from Sudbury to Sable Isle from Gander, Newfoundland to Yukon wild this rythmn in his boot is still a little part of me and you (chorus) He was the better part of us the one that doesn't bend that you can trust that says a lot for never giving up your values and your pride and things you love Bridge Chorus

Fukushima Butterfly She had just turned 30 when she got the diagnosis And started on the Chemo and the radiation doses The radio played love songs but not for her Then her chestnut hair fell out upon her pillow She cried a little while then she let it all go She always did mean to try platinum blond Brave isn’t something that you’re born with It’s something that you learn It’s not the absence of fear It’s how you turn it into light She can still take flight Fukushima butterfly When she turned 33 she knew they’d have to take the rest The doctor shook his head and said that it was for the best Her lover played his love songs – just for her When she was half way healed she didn’t want to make it But stickered on a smile and decided just to fake it And love pulled her through Through the worst (Chorus) Now she’s 44 and it looks as though she’s whipped it And all of the scans are clear if the future still is cryptic Her husband still plays love songs – just for her And her hair is back though it’s got a little silver She doesn’t mind it cause it somehow seems to suit her Though she’s sometimes tempted by platinum blond. VERSE 1 I watched you sparkle, heard you pop friends warned me but I couldn't stop lost in your eyes, drunk on your smile you controlled me for awhile CHORUS You were bad champagne I soaked you in like rain better to abstain you were bad champagne VERSE 2 You were hostile, you were vile you turned bitter just like bile I tried to drown, I tried to drink Tried everything not to think CHORUS 1X Now you're dried out and wanting more I've lost the taste for what you pour so here's the bottom of the glass I can say goodbye at last CHORUS 2X'S You were bad champagne You were bad champagne

MONEY ON THE GIRL (copyright D.Dagenais May 28, 2013) Old Pictou Harbour will never be the same from the "Great Dory Challenge" that was issued on that day Brent took the red boat and Pam took the green who would stay up longest that was what was to be seen My money’s on the girl Though she’s never rowed a boat Cause when the waves Overturn them all He’s got the oars But she’s got the floats The whole town turned out To make sure they didn’t drowned When the deed was over They bought everyone a round Brent made a toast And Pam a few more She thought it would be nice If we would help her off the floor My money’s on the girl Though her boat has started leaking When the waves Overturn them all He’s got the oars But she’s got the beacons The moral of this story is plain as you can see Don’t swim beside a mermaid If you’re cast off at sea Cause the sailors and the rescue men Will all be following To save that little tail That can probably out swim them My money’s on the girl Oh she’s sly and she’s coy And when the waves overturn them all He’s got the oars But she’s got the buoys My money’s on the girl Though she’s never rowed a boat when the waves Overturn them all He’s got the oars But she’s got the floats

One Man Per Train (Corporate Games) All for the want of a brake man how many lives were lost? All for the bottom line figure All for cutting the cost This is supposed to be A regulated industry Well that depends on whose pocket you’re in One man per train it doesn’t matter what danger they’re in Oh the job of the brakeman was to secure all the stops But they put him out to pasture When the technology caught up The thing about technology Is it can fail as easily And it doesn’t have that ‘gut thing’ to go on One man per train it doesn’t matter what danger they’re in All of this progress advances; all of these changes come round ‘Til its Russian Roulette with the chances And lives in these little towns If it’s not through our back yard We can cut the corners, work them hard Chew them up and grind them down One man per train it doesn’t matter what danger they’re in All for the want of a brakeman city blocks lie in ruin The corporate clowns point their fingers And say he didn’t know what he was doing The difference between them and us They’ll throw the guy under the bus Before the wrecks even cooling One man per train it doesn’t matter what danger they’re in Everyone from that town has my sympathy, that engineer has my pity These corporate games are not friendly These corporate games are not pretty We’re the only ones that loose Cause they’re the ones that make the rules And the rules only work in their favour One man per train it doesn’t matter what danger we’re in.

If You Dig It (copyright D.Dagenais July 23, 2013) I don’t look like Harrison Ford I’ve never owned a pistol or a whip I haven’t spent much time Running for my life But I have spent weeks down in a pit It’s not Hollywood and it’s not glamorous We don’t get Oscars or sidewalk stars for this The rewards come in sherds a million little bits But it’s all still treasure if you dig it. I’ve never own a single hat that looked liked that I’ve never met a Nazi villain I spend my days cataloguing crap And writing papers about ruins It’s more academic than action oriented But you don’t get shot at and no one really wants you dead Rewards come in sherds a million little bits But it’s all still treasure if you dig it Indiana can save the planet While I record the artifacts Between the layers and the granite Then back fill the holes To save them for tomorrow Cause they aren’t ours to keep They’re only ours to borrow I’ve never spent too much time in deathly peril I’ve never run from a rolling rock I spend time washing bits of pottery Then carefully pack them in a box It’s not the movies It’s not Hollywood We mostly don’t get famous Even though maybe we should Rewards come in sherds a million little bits But it’s all still treasure if you dig it. It’s all still treasure if you dig it.

THE RIGHT TO BREATHE (Copyright D.Dagenais August 1, 2013) How can you drink with poison in the water? How can you breathe with smoke in the air? How can you think about the almighty dollar? When it’s choking your sons and daughters Would you water your family tree? From that pond full of poison Would you let your children believe? They have no right to breathe They have no right to breathe How can you see if you’re corrupted by the capital With blindfold of bills and pay cheques How you can’t swim where your own father taught you It’s contaminated by your compromise Would you trade your memories? To buy things so easily forgotten Would you let your children believe? They have no right to breathe They have no right to breathe It’s up to you to make some changes I will too cause no one is blameless But you have more strength than you believe Once you get up, off your knees You can stand when you’re too frail to function Just take my hand and my shoulder It’s all right we can fix what we’ve broken It’s is not over until it’s over And we have the right to breathe

The Secret to a Happy Life “Love is the only thing that makes you happy in the end.” He said As he counted out his grandkids on his fingers in his hospital bed “The working and the saving, flags you’re flying, games you’re playing aren’t legit The secret to a happy life is simply feeling love and giving it.” “I’ve been around a lot of years; I’ve done some things I’d rather not repeat.” As he drummed out a tune on the starched white hospital sheets “The winning and the losing, plans you’re making, paths you’re choosing turn and shift The secret to a happy life is simply feeling love and giving it.” “So hold on to the faces that make your day And watch well, all the words that you give away ‘Because you don’t know what will be held to the heart So make them soft and never sharp” “Love is the only thing that really matters when it’s said and done” As the light fell across the bed like fragments from the setting sun “When noise and confusion and disillusion makes you want to quit The secret to a happy life is simply feeling love and giving it.” The secret to a happy life is simply feeling love and giving it. (Outtro – from The French Song by Harry Pease and Larry Vincent) When the sun says good day to the mountains And the night says hello to the dawn I’m alone with my dreams on the hilltop I can still hear his voice though he’s gone.

Sometimes it feels like a windowless room you can't get out and you can't see through the dark and the walls press in on you until you're curled up in a corner (chorus) I wanna show you to the light I wanna tell you it's all right let me be your wrecking ball tonight and I'll break through the walls Sometimes you feel like a prisoner here doing hard time 'til you disapear the doubt and the shame whisper in your ear you feel like you're forgotten (chorus) It's so hard when you're so weak to stand up apon you feet but you try to reach for me and I promise I won't leave Until you feel the sun on your face until you're walking out of this place if you stumble then I...I will embrace you before you fall (chorus)
