LATE AT NIGHT WALTZ Billy he dances with a bright bottled blond at 2am rings on the tables but the glasses are gone at 2am barkeep is saying "drink up and get out" the band has stopped playing and the lights have come up but Billy he dances a late at night waltz at 2am Billy he dances a late at night waltz at 2am There's nowhere to go now but back to his room where the ghosts in the walls and the music seep through he sways and remembers "she liked this one too" at 2 am Billy he dances where no one can see at 2am a bottle of whiskey he lets take the lead at 2am there's nowhere to go now but into his past and he sings along until his voice cracks his late at night waltz is over at last at 2am

Run 03:44
Run Fly you fool, run for your life There are not enough hours of darkness tonight To cover your tracks Put the wind at your back And run You gave up your shoes Surrendered your hat Threw up a white flag And then took it back There’s nowhere to go now But into the fray Unless you run Love is a dangerous battle The best of times But you can’t prove your worth Or your metal The rest of times Sure you’ll be caught in the heat of the sun The muzzles of cannons The crosshairs of guns Unless you run Go on ahead No need to wait There are dogs at the doorway And men at the gate If you make it outside You can send someone back To collect all the things you’ll need to have Love is an underground railway It moves unseen But it can leave a trail you can follow If you know what it means Sure you’ll be scared By the noise and the fight The dark and the cold But you’ll be alright If you run ....to me ....to me Run

DRUNK ON TUESDAY If God takes care of drunks and fools then He's got both his eyes on you She left on Friday and now you you are drunk on Tuesday If hearts can break and pride can bruise then you're all over black and blue she took the dog and the TV too so you are drunk on Tuesday You can drown than sorrow as deep as you like you can soak it in vodka and set it alight and for awhile you'll feel alright drunk on Tuesday If time heals all and if it flies it won't be long til you're alright it's a temporary sideways slide so you are drunk on Tuesday If God can grant serenity the courage of conviction the wisdom to see this can be a bad memory of being drunk on Tuesday

Unlucky Gamble Starlight and white rice Shadows on the wall Cameos and outlines midnight slips inside Like a cat from the alleyway It slides past the window pain To lie at the foot of my bed The past’s never fades If love’s never dead I kept you alive in my head A sweet midnight ramble And unlucky gamble Going down To the other side Of a dream I’d been talking Out loud in the night It’s dreamed out Should be put aside An unwanted harmony That I’d leave behind me Lies at the back of my tongue It never ages, it’s always young Honey now what have you done You stole and you scrambled For and unlucky gamble You I have known my whole life You cut the surface of the night But lady luck has broken these dice They don’t roll they just ramble For an unlucky gamble Starlight and white rice Shadows on the wall Cameos and outlines

Where the Water Meets the Stone Weep no more for your heart and kin Weep no more for your home For you soon will be following Where the water meets the stone It’s so hard at the end of the day To wash those sorrows away But like a stone humbled by the rain Tomorrow takes today And it’s true that the hardest man Will fold his hands across his chest Like a cave in the ocean waves Carved out by the crests In these days when your trouble looms Like boulders on the land Trust the rain, trust that given time It will turn them all to sand

Dream without Sleep Sleep without dreaming Dream without needing To keep your feet planted To keep yourself Down on the ground Love without loosing Loose without crying Cause everything you wanted Is lost and then is found And don’t forget to sing your song Don’t forget to sing along The smallest part Can still change everything Sleep without dreaming Dream without sleep Dance without falling Fall without trying To cushion the landing By keeping your feet On the ground Live without fearing Fear without stopping To wait to be given The things you’ve already found

Two Sisters 03:16
Two Sisters Two sisters born on the very same day One as fair in face As an unmarked snowfall would lay Hair like golden lace The other olive as a sun kissed skin Eyes of charcoal grey That envied the ocean in the eyes of her twin Under her raven waves As they grew one small and sweet The other tall and brave She still envied those golden curls Under her raven waves Two sisters wed on the same day To a farmer and a priest One as hard as the callous on a hand The other soft as fleece The farmers love was warm and strong The priest just sought to save But she still envied those golden curls Under her raven waves You never know the other side of the coin Whose opposite you face Milky skin and golden curls Don’t fill a lonely day Two sisters died on the very same night Bent with time and age One surrounded with children and light The other on a narrow bed As they flew one small and weak The other tall and brave She couldn’t envy those golden curls When both their hair was grey You never know the other side of the coin Whose opposite you face You cannot envy those golden curls Under your raven waves You cannot envy those golden curls Under your raven waves

So Good At Being Bad If you’re so good How come you treat me so bad You lie and you cheat I forgive and forget If i’m so smart Why did I give you my heart I’d leave if I could But you’re so good When I make up my mind That i’m outta here You sneak up behind And whisper in my ear And you’re so good That my knees go weak You’re so good At being bad for me If you’re so good Why do you do me so wrong Coming home late With perfume on If I’m so smart If I’m so strong I’d leave like i should But your so good When I’ve packed up my case And loaded the car You’re on your knees And I never get too far Cause you’re so good Regretful and meek You’re so good At being bad for me One of these times It’s not gonna work I’ll leave you behind You’ll be the one to hurt If you’re so good Why do you make me so sad You’re so good So good at being bad

Folly’s Dance It was Folly’s dance that did him in The lump of coal beneath his skin Was lit with passion’s yellow flame and blue The dance was danced in holey shoes Torn hoes to a much abused Violin with an open crack And a cut away with a broken back Folly danced in the coal light and the kerosene air Folly danced like she was the only one there And before he could even ask her, her name He fell in love with Folly’s flame There’s nothing soft in a miner’s life But nothing grows without some light 1000 feet beneath the crust Breathing black and choking dust But Folly danced on the off nights In her scarlet and greens Folly danced like she was Somebody’s queen And before he could even ask her, her name He fell in love with Folly’s flame. Folly danced in the coal light and the kerosene air Folly danced like she was the only one there And before he could even ask her, her name He fell in love with Folly’s flame The dance was danced in holey shoes Torn hoes to a much abused Violin with an open crack And a cut away with a broken back Folly danced in the coal light and the kerosene air Folly danced like she was the only one there And before he could even ask her, her name He fell in love with Folly’s flame

Late Night Owls I’ve been singing songs in smoky bars For the price of beer and menthol ciggarets I’ve been putting on my best it seems In these denim jeans, hat and sequin vest I’d never do you any harm But these late night gigs are gonna kill ya The early bird might get the worm The late night owls take the tequila La la la I’ve been writing songs and riding rough In my beat up pickup truck It’s made less of chrome and more of rust Will hold together with some luck The bar’s a little short on charm But it’s Friday and I feel ya The early bird might get the worm The late night owls take the tequila La la la La la la la la I’ve been lonely every now and then We’re all friendless on the road But every neon sign is home again Mother’s milk tequila rose So drink it up and sing along You’re out of tune but I can hear ya The early bird might get the worm The late night owls take the tequila La la la La la la la la I’d never do you any harm But these late night hours are gonna kill ya The early bird might get the worm The late night owls take the tequila La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la

The Face of My Motherland (copyright D.Dagenais) Better to go down with a fight Or stand up and be counted We always were afraid at night That didn’t change with the morning Of that last great battle by the barbwire wall Our helmet shattered by the sound of the shells I laid in the mud next to you And you showed me The love of your life in a sepia white gingham dress And a smile sweet as hell, sweet as heaven So I could remember the face of my motherland For four long hours Bloody and broken You talked of an angel Of whom you had spoken before And your face took a glow of contentment As I closed your eyes against our entrenchment I laid in the mud next to you As you held her The love of your life in a sepia white gingham dress And a smile sweet as hell, sweet as heaven And you would remember the face of my motherland Jane I am sending these metals and letters He wore on his chest He was a better man than I For my part I am keeping just one thing A sweet paper ghost that I have been saving Since I laid in the mud next to him And I held you The love of his life in a sepia white gingham dress And a smile sweet as hell, sweet as heaven So I could remember the face of my motherland
